I have been looking for this song for over 30 years! My elementary school used me as the "Little Brown Girl" for the Black history play when I was in 1st grade. I had no Idea Nina sang this. I remember the lyrics as clear as day. I had no idea they were so loaded! Wow! Powerful!

So my friend Max and I decided to paint and decorate my mom's kitchen recently in Miami. We bought the paint at Walmart (Color Place), the accessories for the table at Target, the square mirror wall hangings and storage basket at Ikea. My mom had the 'fisherman and his wife' woodcarvings already.

I have been in the house for a little over 8 years. I finally grew tired of the bland white walls. Well actually, I have been tired of colorless walls for a while. With the constant prodding of my friend Max, the deed got done! The paint was purchased at Walmart and the bed set, lamp, pillows, and other accessories were purchased at Home Goods. I love the purple accent wall and the decor! Our room is so much more inviting now!

So I decided to dye my natural hair RED. I know that it has been debated time and time again that using any chemicals that alter your hair's state is not "Natural". I am cool with the idea of henna and all, but sometimes you want really red hair, so you turn to a box of dye to lift and deposit the color that you so desire. Here are some pics from the process. I really am enjoying my hair color and have received countless compliments on it!

She said, "the natural hair care scene is nice here..you have soo many naturally talented women here and students that can make beautiful artwork on your head by just braids of all kinds,sizes,geometric patterns and so forth and you are allowed to be an individual with your hair....it describes your personality and ability to not be contracted by the creamy crack..and also if you want a change you can do nice sew ins, braid outs,twist outs and blow outs and etc..it's exciting and brand new terrain here..i am enjoying naija :)"

This is my first time ever entering an online, youtube contest. Either way, I was glad to give it a try to see how things would turn out. This has sparked many ideas. I am going to do this for real this time! I am tired of being Skinny Fat! I am at risk of being Diabetic. I have been what is termed "Genetically Blessed" all of my life. Thin and skinny, with a little bit of booty (lol). But my sedentary lifestyle really isn't cutting it. The exercises that I typically love include walking, bike riding, skating, and dancing. I enjoy aerobic exercises. My thing is, I am LAZY! When I get home from work, I am sitting, and sitting, and sitting....

As far as my diet is concerned, I had a wonderful conversation with Afya from http://www.nattral.com/.
She let me know that it is okay to gradually eat less meat, and not go 'Cold Turkey' when attempting a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. This has been my goal forever! I hope that this challenge helps me to reach my goal!
